We all want to be beautiful! This is why most of us spend hours in front of the mirror, trying to look our best. In the process, however, a lot of us are making beauty regimens that we have no idea are bad for us. Here are 15 beauty mistakes you may have been committing for years:
#1. Using your concealer.
Here are a couple of mistakes women make with their concealers. First, we tend to apply too much on a targeted area. The proper way to put on your concealer is to layer it. Apply a small amount over your blemish, let it dry and apply another layer. Second, we are guilty of using the same concealer for every job. The truth is, you may need more than one shade of concealers. A peach-toned concealer is best used for dark circles under your eyes, a green-toned one is great for canceling out pimples and blemishes while a yellow-toned concealer is best for evening out your skin color.
#2. Using the wrong color of eyeliner.
A black eyeliner is suited for women who have a darker skin tone. If you have light to medium skin tone, a light to dark brown eyeliner should look best on you. It works great if you have blonde hair, and green or blue eyes. Whichever color you choose, take this advice from Cosmopolitan: select a lighter, more subtle color for your bottom lids. Keep the liner away from your water line. Instead, use a nude pencil there instead to make your eyes pop. There is also no reason to trace your entire eye area. Most women look great tracing only ¾ of their eyes.
#3. Sleeping on your side.
Sleeping on your side causes sleep lines which are not only annoying but also creates permanent marks in the long run. Try sleeping on your back. It might take a while but it is for your skin’s own good. Here are a few tips you can try if you want to make the switch: Put a pillow under your knees. It supports your back and prevents you from rolling over. Most people found this to be very comforting. You may also switch out for another type of pillow. There are pillows in the market which are especially made for back-sleepers.
#4. Choosing a tacky lipstick color.
The right shade of lipstick can give your confidence a huge boost. But the wrong one? It can ruin your whole image. A lot of women love to use bold, unnatural colors despite the fact that it makes them look tacky and unattractive. Please don’t make this mistake. It distracts others from appreciating the rest of your face and can make you look like you are trying too hard. If you decide to make a bold choice, keep the rest of your makeup simple. There is no need to use gloss over your lipstick too.
#5. Bronzing all over.
A bronzer is not made to be used all over your face. This product should only be applied on areas where the sun would naturally hit. Sweep it over the outer edges of your face, specifically at the top of your forehead, cheekbones and jawline. To ensure that you are using your bronzer correctly, observe if you are drawing the number 3 on both sides of your face. If you are, then you are doing it right!
#6. Abusing fake eyelashes.
Almost every woman wants to have long and beautiful eyelashes. This is why we crimp, curl and apply mascara every day. In the past, our only option was using mascara. Nowadays, falsies and extensions are now available. Don’t get me wrong. If you use the right length and volume of falsies and extensions, you can make your eyes stand out. But if you use too much, you will appear like you have spiders crawling out of your eyes. Don’t forget this fact too: frequently using fake eyelashes can do damage to your natural lashes. As much as possible, stay away from them and use only during special occasions.
#7. Misusing dry shampoo.
We are sure you will agree with us when we say it is torture having to wash, dry and style your hair every single day. Dry shampoo has been a life-saver. It is a helpful wonder that saves us countless of hours enduring the heat of our hair dryer. However, a lot of women don’t feel the same way because they have been using dry shampoo all wrong. The biggest mistake is they do not wait for it to absorb. To get the most out of your dry shampoo, spray it on and let it sit as you do your makeup. By the time you are finish, your hair should look fresh and ready to go.
#8. Over-washing your face.
Washing your face frequently and briskly may seem harmless but it actually damages your skin. Everyone has a different skin type. Some of us are older than others so there are many factors involved but if you find your skin to be flaky and dry, most likely you are washing your face too much. Stop your habit. Let your skin’s natural oils moisturize for you. It’s important to wash before bed to remove your makeup but you can skip washing your hair the next morning. You can use a baby wash to clean your face. It is gentle enough to make you feel clean without stripping your skin of its natural oils.
#9. Wearing face powder.
A lot of us use face powder. It is great for locking in your makeup and getting rid of annoying shine. However, what many of us do not know is that this product can make you look old. It magnifies wrinkles and other imperfections you may have. Some women don’t really need face powder at all. If you want to control the shine, use powder only on your nose and forehead area.
#10. Wearing waterproof mascara every day.
